Over all, Midge Pupae patterns (in size 10 through 16) have been the most consistently effective high lake fly patterns that I have used over many years. They are also very effective as warm water fly patterns as well. Cutter's 3:29 minuet video segment shows what these aquatic insects' life stages look like, and how they behave so you can create effective flies and present them properly:
