Richmond Virginia Tenkara

Postby richvageologist » Fri Aug 06, 2010 11:56 am

I have finally found some time in the last couple of weeks to take the Tenkara rod out for some fun. My 7-year old son and I have had a blast with the James River smallmouths and bream. I also had a chance to slay the freshly stocked largemouths at the rehabbed Forest Hill Park lake.
I have to say that my 4 and 7 weights are just decorations now.

Any other Tenkara guys in the area?

Sounds like you guys had a good time. If there aren't any tenkara guys in your area it will be your responsibility to convert some. Just kidding. But you'll find you'll get a few converts just by getting out there and fishing. Good luck!

I already have one convert in mind! My Dad's best friend, who has been Western-style fly fishing for about 40 years, is the worst fly caster known to man. I think he could actually enjoy fly fishing again if he would take up Tenkara. He'll be at my place next week for the big hunting show in Richmond. I will seize the opportunity to convert him!

Good luck. From the enthusiasm I read in your post I think you've got what it takes. I'll be introduce my Ayu and Iwana to a couple of guys tomorrow. So far everyone seems impress with how it performs once they see it in action.
