Very nice! Great looking fish too! What was your set up? I fish the surf here in So. Ca. and would love to try a tenkara rod there. Thinking about it, I would guess you wouldn't spook the fish with a tenkara rod like you would with a western rods fly line.

i fish a 13' ayu, 10'6" line & 6-10' of 5x. i tie on a #10 clouser minnow as a point fly and a small shrimp pattern as a dropper. with tenkara rods you can fish 2 flies all day without tangling.

I'm really jealous. I spent the day shoveling snow, and I do mean the whole day. Great job on some nice fish.

Bonefish? BONEFISH?

And here I've been telling everyone that you don't need a reel unless you were fishing for something like steelhead or BONEFISH!

If you start catching steelhead I GIVE UP!

Nice catch, though.

Daryl,

Wow, I gotta think that is the first ever bonefish caught via Tenkara. You need to register it as a new world record for the fixed line category.

Chris,
I bet a number of steelhead have already been caught using Tenkara. Granted, mostly parr/smolts. I may have caught a small jack drop back last summer. It's hard to tell the the smaller lake run fish from the larger resident trout. However, all in all, point well taken.

Thanks for the information Daryl. The next time I head to the surf my friends will think I'm crazy but I'm willing to give it a try. I'll use my Yamame for it's backbone.

Good catch with that bone. Wish you had that fight on video.
